Dénouement 03:46
I know I’ve never been So sure of anything Always kept my heart on a string Untied, so liberated I’ve tried to maintain this state of mind Always set my sights too high And in my wildest dreams I’ve found a sense of peace I know it’s hard to believe And in my darkest nightmares I’ve found a sense of what it’s like not To be scared, oh Take your own advice But listen to the wind When it whispers gently in your ear “This is freedom, come join in” Because your life is in your hands And whatever tomorrow brings Is just a canvas for you to paint upon You can listen or you can sing In my wildest dreams I’ve found a sense of peace I know it’s hard to believe And in my darkest nightmares I’ve found a sense of what it’s like not To be scared, oh A feeling of fear will get you nowhere But revealing a tear to someone who cares Will be enough to drown it out, drown it out In my wildest dreams I’ve found a sense of peace I know it’s hard to believe And in my darkest nightmares I’ve found a sense of what it’s like not To be scared, oh

Jonny 04:49
This guy sits in his office working nine 'til seven This guy sits in his office working nine 'til seven He has a wife and kids; a family And all he ever wishes is to be with them He wishes on stars and on birthday candles, He wishes on eyelashes, gets into lucky superstition All in the hope Jonny makes the money but doesn't get paid in the way that he wants to He wants to be with them, wants to watch his babies grow older Jonny makes the money but still isn't satisfied He wants to be by their sides, all the time This guy sits in his office working nine 'til seven This guy sits in his office working nine 'til seven He takes photographs and puts them on his desk Just to remind him of their faces He takes keyrings and items of his family's Just to help him to feel at home But it still isn't home Jonny makes the money but doesn't get paid in the way that he wants to He wants to be with them, wants to watch his babies grow older Jonny makes the money but still isn't satisfied He wants to be by their sides, all the time Jonny decides to take the day off And another one And another And then he retires Now Jonny takes his kids to university and their work places He just wishes that he could have done this When they were younger Jonny makes no money but now he gets paid in the way that he wants to Because he is with them, and he's watching his babies grow older Jonny makes no money but now he is satisfied Because he is by their sides, all the time

Eyes Closed 04:01
Even with my eyes closed I can see the Holy Ghost And I don't even know Whether or not I believe And even with my eyes shut tight I can see the darkest night But I can’t even feel Whether or not it’s real And even if I am Standing in the light I can feel the dark Upon my skin And I don’t know If I am gone Or I am here Even when you hold me close I know it won't last for long 'Cause you aren't always there Oh and even when you talk this nice I can see the worst of fights brewing in your eyes Reminding me that not everything's perfect And I can be the nicest girl Open up my little world For everyone to hear Even though I have the fear And I don’t know If I believe But I know there's something Something keeping me Calmness doesn't grace a fool Tranquility's a skill after all Of those who've found themselves And one day we will make it there Breathe out all that fearful air we take in all our lives From the moment we're born to the moment we... I feel a sudden change in words I can't describe But it's like my world has opened up and I feel alive The colours are mine again to do with what I like The sea, the sky, the trees, the birds, the bees

In this land you can’t choose if you win or if you lose It’s down to you to decide if you run or if you hide And in this land if you say what you want, you’re pretentious or ignorant Self-righteous or naïve Que sera sera mon cher On n’a pas le choix What will be will be my dear But don’t forget You have a voice, have a choice And what we’ve started isn’t finished yet In this land you can’t choose if you win or if you lose It’s down to you to decide if you run or if you hide And in this land you are welcome to vote For people who corrupt and clean their moats In this land it’s money that you need ‘Cause who wants love when you’ve got greed Que sera sera mon cher On n’a pas le choix What will be will be my dear but don’t forget You have a voice, have a choice and what we’ve started isn’t finished yet What will be will be my dear but don’t forget You have a voice, have a choice and what we’ve started isn’t finished yet (Syred): Will you run or will you fight Step to the front or will you reside For in this land a broken man has only one thing to decide Still only one thing on his mind That's to find the voice of reason Find that voice to lead him Guide his choice and teach him How to be the man he's seeing When he's sleeping 'Cause when he's dreaming That's when his thoughts become his feelings And he begins to understand the true meaning of his life And why he was put here on this earth When so called policies, open economies Hope for monopolies, what is it worth? When global equality doesn't come first Government honesty's stuck in the hearse They act like they've got feet on the ground but they haven't even touched the dirt Nor tasted the blood of an african child that's had to drink from stagnant water To stay alive then later died cause lakes of life provide the poison What will be will be, my dear And don't forget You have a voice, have a choice And what we've started isn't finished...

about

This EP is a mix of both old and new songs. I decided to take a new approach to recording this one by setting a loose deadline of a couple of days to get the recordings done in order to keep the feeling alive within the songs.

I arranged to spend a long weekend with Mr Frankie Harper in his parents' summerhouse in their garden...it acted as a more than sufficient studio and we managed to get most of "In This Land" and "Dénouement" (the two more challenging tracks) recorded while we were there.

On the last day we decided to do a live recording of "Jonny" just as the torrential rain began pounding onto the roof of the little wooden house...I wonder if you can hear it! Jonny was one of the first songs I ever wrote and was inspired by my dad who has worked incredibly hard for the whole of my life (and probably before I was born but possibly not...I wouldn't know) and is the most kind, selfless person I have ever known. I had never made a proper recording of this song and so I decided to put it on this EP. I did transpose it down a tone though due to the fact that my voice was evidently much higher when I wrote it at the tender age of 14..!

credits

released December 31, 2013

Frankie Harper - An absolute endless talent and invaluable friend. Music is as natural an instinct to you as breathing and I will be eternally thankful for your involvement in all this and all the energy you voluntarily put into these songs.

Harry and Sarah Harper - Thank you for being such lovely, generous people and for ferrying us around and feeding me...all for the payment of a portion of "Reduced" M&S Kippers.

Louie Syred - Your passion and confidence combined with your incredible flair for language and lyric-writing never ceases to amaze me. I remember you asking me if you could write a verse for "In This Land" soon after I first met you and we could never work out when would be a good time to use it...and here we are! Thank you for being so supportive of everything I do.

Dad - I love you and thank you for being you.
